Throughout American history, societal shifts have significantly influenced residential preferences and living arrangements. From post-World War II suburban sprawl to the urban migration of the 2000s, each era reflects a unique response to the prevailing economic, technological, and social currents. However, the recent pandemic has introduced a nuanced change, not just in where people choose to live, but more profoundly, in how they choose to live.

Heather Personne, Managing Principal of development firm Evolve Ventures, has been selected as the new Chair of the Urban Land Institute, Arizona District Council (ULI Arizona), serving on a voluntary basis for a two-year term that started on July 1.

Evolve Ventures Managing Principal Heather Personne was named one of AZRE’s 2023 Most Influential Women in Real Estate. The 15 honorees were selected by a panel of previous winners from a pool of more than 1,900 women under consideration.

This month, Evolve Ventures’ Founding Principals Amy Malloy and Heather Personne hosted a panel entitled “Modern Networking: Using Your Personal Interests to Build Relationships and Seal Deals.” In addition to Amy and Heather, panelists included Tammy Carr with Brinkmann Constructors, Angela Talbot with JE Dunn Construction, Karla Moran with Salt River Project, and Ashley Nye with Cortland.

Evolve Ventures’ own Heather Personne was honored this month as one of the Phoenix Business Journal’s 2023 Most Admired Leaders. Each year the PBJ recognizes local leaders for their contributions to the community as well as their integrity, values, vision and commitment to excellence. Congratulations, Heather!

As working moms, they also were used to choosing between beneficial networking opportunities or taking their kids to school and making soccer practice on time. This came with the territory for female commercial real estate professionals, a minority among those working in the industry.

Katie Roe and her husband purchased their home near Happy Valley Road and 67th Avenue in Peoria 17 years ago so they could be close to their insurance company jobs.

But when it came to the independent restaurant scene they craved, the couple wasn't close to much. The Roes had moved from Cleveland, where they were accustomed to an array of non-corporate food options. They weren't looking for fine dining and preferred a laid-back vibe, but still, it took a 30- or 40-minute drive east to find satiation.

Phoenix’s dynamic economy and demographics have set the stage for many new businesses in recent years. Founded in 2019 by Amy Malloy and Heather Personne as a consulting firm, Evolve Ventures has worked with more than 50 private and public entities to bring commercial and residential projects to fruition.

The company recently made its debut as a developer with two urban infill multifamily projects in midtown Phoenix and downtown Chandler, Arizona.

The company’s managing principals, Amy Malloy and Heather Personne, combined their almost 50 years of experience to form a firm they say is “committed to thinking, acting and transacting differently in an ever-changing market.”

This month, Evolve Ventures is celebrating three years in business! As cities like Phoenix mature, there is a push to repurpose buildings that create a sense of place and preserve character.

Many issues that can get in the way of repurposing old buildings are regulatory, Amy Malloy, managing principal of Evolve Ventures, said. “In many cities the development codes are really catered toward a 300-to-500-(apartment) unit, ground-up development,” she said.

Sprouts Farmers Market Inc. has signed a long-term lease to occupy the grocery anchor store at Papago Plaza. Sprouts (Nasdaq: SFM) will slide into a 23,000-square-foot space at the base of a 172-space, two-story parking garage above it at the shopping center being redeveloped in Scottsdale. With a lease secured, owner Pivot Development expects construction of the grocery store and garage to kick off in early 2023 with an opening date sometime in 2024. Phoenix-based Evolve Ventures is representing Papago Plaza on leasing, design and construction oversight.

In March 2019, one year prior to the pandemic shutdowns, entrepreneurs Heather Personne and Amy Malloy started Evolve Ventures. “It is hard to believe it has been two years for our company. Time has flown by, but our partnership feels like such a permanent fixture.”

In Commercial Executive Magazine’s annual Women in Power issue, five bold women grace the cover for an inside look at their courageous leadership styles and bold strategies for advancing in the workplace. This year’s Women in Power include Grenee Celuch, Kylie Cook, Amy Malloy, Juanita Mebane and Jennifer Schrader.
